Why am I always in the ER with flip-flops on?
Seriously. I know by definition that if I am in the Emergency Room it is an… emergency! But after so many years of shivering in uncomfortable chairs wondering if we can add frostbite treatment to the list… you would think I would stop running out the door without socks.
A few weeks ago, I did it again. My fourteen year old, Leighton, hadn’t been feeling well. I’m not very medically minded, and his symptoms did not seem alarming. Tired. Dehydrated. Tummy hurts. Pretty normal for a cross country kid who slacked off on his water intake.
Not alarming. Until all of a sudden he couldn’t walk down the hall and he added some truly alarming symptoms.
8pm at night. Possible appendicitis. I ran right out the door… in my flip-flops.
Covid test. CT Scan. Surgery. It is all a middle of the night, frozen feet blur.
And when I received a text from a friend on her way to support me at 2:00 am - all I asked her to bring me was socks.
(A few hours later I realized I should have asked for my toothbrush and phone charger as well. Oops!)
But I would choose cold feet everyday for the rest of my life if it meant my kid’s life was saved.
Those hours in the hospital made me thankful for every single image I have of Leighton. At 14, he is rather a master at not being photographed. As he lay in the bed, I flipped through my phone looking for a snapshot I could post. Ya’ll, I was all the way back to APRIL before I found a nice one of him that wasn’t all 7 of us together. Sometimes, we just don’t realize how much time has passed since we had a portrait.
So if it’s been too long for your family, reach out today and let us make sure you have portraits that truly showcase the love you have for them.
And if you want to see how different the last 10 years of my own family portraits look, take a peak on the blog post here.
With love,
Kat
