I have been parenting a high school senior this year… Her name is Lorien.
And while I have not been an emotional mess 100 percent of the time, there is a reason so many moms talk about how hard this is.
Because it is hard.
It is hard to transition from our rules and boundaries to when… she won’t have any.
It is hard to transition from our home routine… to when she won’t be part of it.
It is hard to celebrate her wins… because each one has the ‘last one’ sting to it.
But I can do hard things.
And I can use artwork to help me transition.
I can photograph the cello that fills my home with beautiful music.
I can photograph the bread that fills my home with such delicious smells!
I can photograph her crested gecko, Nina, that brings the exotic into our everyday lives.
And I can photograph a silly girl in a teddy bear sweater… because she is still my silly little girl!
I can also understand even better how my clients have felt all these years - trusting me with these lasts - these transitions of who they were and who they want to become. Trusting me to create images that capture more than just one thing about their child!
And I understand in a whole new way how these portraits make her feel close, especially as my own plans to move very far away.
These transitions are just that - transitions. They are not goodbyes. Just ‘see ya later’s.
So I shouldn’t be surprised we have transitioned to booking Class of 2025 seniors already. If you are that mom, it is time to call for all the information and get on the calendar!
I can’t take out the transition, but I can take the worry out of senior photos.
I can’y wait to help you have portraits that mean this much to you,
With love,
Kat
