I met a woman in Texas last week. She was wearing a pink shirt under a leopard blazer (I liked her already ;-)
But once I saw her shirt more closely? I thought I might love her.
Her shirt said “Do it scared”.
Now, I don’t remember exactly the first time I heard the phrase. Or the first counselor to talk with me about it. Or how many times I heard motivational speakers use it before one day it really sunk in. Not that I could do something while feeling scared…
What sunk in was that I was always scared.
Don’t get me wrong here. I have supportive family. A tremendous faith community. Industry peers that push me creatively. I am not without hope!
But inside. I am always scared. Personal risks. Professional risks. Huge leap of faith risks.
I do all the things scared. And hope is my anchor.
I got married scared. Had children scared. Started a business scared. Fostered children scared. Started competing artistically scared. Adopted scared. Started teaching scared.
When I was younger, I thought I would out grow it. That some day I would BE BRAVE. Today? I think that child was a fool. I AM brave because I do all the things scared.
And I am thankful for the marriage, and the kids, and the adoption. And I can’t wait to share our desert glam family portrait in Utah with you all!
And if reading that sentence made you panic, give me a call! We have gorgeous family portrait options for you right here in Iowa ;-) and we can celebrate all the things you did while you were scared, too!
With joy,
Kat
